Self-closing louvered vents are ventilation devices that open and close automatically due to the weight of their louvers; they are commonly used in passive natural ventilation applications (such as exhaust ventilation in bathrooms and stairwells). The louvers are angled at 45°; under normal conditions, their own weight causes them to hang down and close the vent, preventing outdoor airflow from entering. When indoor air pressure rises (such as during exhaust ventilation), the airflow pushes the louvers open to expel air; once the air pressure drops, the louvers automatically return to their closed position. This design requires no external power, features a simple structure, and prevents backflow.
